Gaskets, Seals, and O-Rings
The Profile Rubber Corporation specializes in the production custom gaskets, seals, and o-rings. These custom rubber products are used to prevent fluid from entering into, or escaping from, the interface between two or more mating containment structures.
Gaskets
A gasket is a mechanical seal that occupies the space between two smooth mating pieces in order to prevent fluid leakage between them when exposed to a pressure differential.
O-Rings
An o-ring is a toroidal, or "doughnut-shaped," seal used as a mechanical seal in virtually every machine requiring fluid containment. O-rings are intended to be seated into a gland, or grove, and compressed between two parts, thereby creating a seal at the interface. Because of their circular shape, o-rings are well suited for both static and dynamic applications. Furthermore, because of their simplicity and ease of production, o-rings tend to be very cost-effective.
Seals
Generally speaking, both gaskets and o-rings are seals in that they prevent pressurized fluids from escaping the interface of two or more containment structures. However, a seal can be more precisely defined as an o-ring with a non-round cross-section or non-round overall shape. Given this definition, seals are generally used when gaskets are undesirable and o-rings are unusable due to a non-round gland or inner surface.
While the Profile Rubber Corporation is not a distributor of standard gaskets, seals, or o-rings, we do specialize in the production of these items for specific, nonstandard, applications. Furthermore, we are also able to assist in choosing the most appropriate rubber compound for the fluid containment task at hand. Please feel free to contact us for your custom fluid containment needs.”
